  1. Ebook

    A book distributed in electronic format rather than on hard copies of paper. Commonly available as downloadable files on the Internet which can then be opened and read on a computer.

  2. Echo

    Programming directive that sends back (echos) information requested. Commonly used to fetch information from the server and print it to a browser (STDOUT).

  3. Editor

    A software program that enables users to create, edit and view files. Also called a Text editor. Common programs include Word, NotePad and Textedit.

  4. Element

    In programming, a single item of an Array of items. When used in the context of web pages, refers to a piece of the page, such as an image or other media.

  5. Email

    Abbreveation for : electronic mail. A typed message sent via the internet.

  6. Embedded Font

    A font which is embedded and delivered within a document to ensure the reader sees the formatted document as intended by the Author.

  7. Encryption

    The conversion of strings or information from plain human readbale language to a into code readable only by software that has a secret key to decipher the converted string. The software converts the string back to human readble language. For example, "hello" may be converted to "Yb/G".

    Commonly used to securely transmit data such as Credit Cards number over the Internet.

  8. End user

    The consumer or user of software program. The people actually using it. E.g. Web site visitors.

  9. Environment

    Information set by an Operating System for common use by programs. A computers environment aids programmers in writing scripts which can be easily ported from one computer to another with little or no modifications required.

  10. Error Trapping

    A method use by programmers to catch errors in programs before they can do any damage. Trapping also provides a smooth experience for users of a program. Some languages provide built in trapping functions.

  11. Ethernet

    Ethernet cards are a commonly used method of networking computers in a LAN. Ethernets were originally developed by the Xerox corporation. Ethernets transmit data over a coaxial cable connecting the computers. Ethernets can use a variety of communication protocols including TCP/IP to transmit and receive data.

  12. Export

    The transfer of data from a programs native format to a format that can be used by other programs.

  13. Extranet

    Web based system for the collaboration of an organization and its clients, business partners or other parties outside the organization. Usually providing employees with the ability to interact with one another and securely share, modify and create private documents, data, news research and contacts.

  14. Ezine

    Short for : Electronic Magazine. A magazine published online and usually delivered to subscribers via Email.
